2024 Westbund "The Golden Age" Solo Exhibition
From November 7th to November 10, 2024, artist Irene Chang's solo exhibition "The Golden Age" is prominently featured at Hall B325 of the Shanghai West Bund Art & Design Fair. This exhibition, presented in collaboration with Artrue Gallery, proudly showcases over 10 of Irene’s latest paintings created in 2024, including: "The Golden Age," "Burst of Joy," "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Joy," and "Untitled." In her second appearance at the Shanghai West Bund Art & Design Fair, artist Irene Chang reflects on her recent creative journey, engaging in a dialogue between artistic creation and life philosophy.
Irene Chang has lived in cities such as Taipei, Hong Kong, New York, and Paris. Benefiting from the energy and cultural nourishment of these different lands, her work presents diverse artistic facets. However, she holds a special fondness for Shanghai, where she lived for fifteen years. Looking back on her life and creative journey, Shanghai represents a crucial milestone. This City not only opened a new chapter in her artistic creation, but also made her realize that the evolution of her work is closely connected to the pulse of this City, hence naming this solo exhibition "The Golden Age."
In balancing family, career, and artistic creation, Irene has found her most suitable state, "focusing on the present" and presenting her best level possible within limited time. Her works, combining spirituality and imagination, are also her "translation" of the real world. As she describes: "I am sometimes passionate and unrestrained, sometimes quiet and reserved. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, and also cherish the tranquility of creating alone." In the deep blue background, birds sing in the forest. The expression, both stable and emotional, seems contradictory yet achieves a certain harmony in her works.

2023 Our Story - “A Walk in Life - Our Story” Solo Exhibition
2023 Our Story - “A Walk in Life - Our Story” - Irene Chang Solo Exhibition at the International Church of Shanghai (ICS) Christmas Gala
During the pandemic, it really got me thinking deeply into how this world and our human race had become the way it is now. The natural disasters, wars, diseases, and viruses that’s happening in the world are all related in one way or another. So, the more I dig in, the more I would like to share my thoughts and findings with everyone. Hoping that this would somehow help ease off the pain we all experienced and share the light and hope I found.
I want to give my audience a place to look back into our life, our history, and our world through my artworks. Provide people a chance to see, to think, to reflect, and eventually take actions to make changes and welcome a better future with open arms!
I plan to continue to use my artworks to communicate and bring art into our everyday lives. I believe through art, we can communicate with our hearts, enrich our well beings, and get closer to the utopia many of us pursue.

2023 Westbund "OUR STORY–Hidden Gems in the Forests" Solo Exhibition
From November 9th to 12th, 2023, Irene Chang Solo Exhibition took place at venue B110 during the 10th Westbund Art & Design Fair. It was coordinated by ARTRUE. This exhibition's main exhibits included the O/X Series, which Irene Chang started in 2022, as well as the Bamboo Series from several years ago. The works, filled with childlike innocence and ethereality, demonstrate the artist’s ability to create vivid illustrations of objects according to their different shapes and forms. Irene Chang’s art resonates with the literati paintings from Imperial China, which present characteristics that reflect the inner soul and unique personal aesthetics.
Irene Chang Solo Exhibition focused on Practitioner, Philosopher, and Creator. It was a gentle yet passionate experience for the senses with rich tinges of life.
Irene Chang Solo Exhibition at the Westbund Art & Design Fair was a brand new beginning for Irene. She was willing to share her honest art and truer views about life. This series of paintings shows the artist’s determination and tenacity despite the challenges of aesthetic inertia. Irene said that her enthusiasm about art is completely self-motivated; she very much enjoys the joy brought by challenges and hopes to comfort viewers spiritually with her new paintings and share with them her subtle realizations. “My paint brush roams across the woods; it combines the abstract and concrete as well as the beauty of both the East and West. I try my best to make art. Even though the future is unknown, I have no regrets with my being in this universe.”.

2022 "A Walk In Life – OUR STORY" Solo Exhibition
I have been contemplating for years the meaning of life, our roles in the world, and how the relationship between the human race and our world had become the way it is today. The natural disasters, wars, diseases, and viruses that’s happening in the world are all related in one way or another. The more I dig in, the more I would like to share my thoughts and findings with everyone.
My exhibition will be delivered in 4 parts: the current situation we are in; the attempt to look into our past and explore our beginnings; exploring the light and the darkness in our world; and finally, the revelation. I hope these works could somehow help ease off the pain we all experienced and share the light and hope I found.

2019 "Into the Bamboo Forest" Solo Exhibition
May 2019 marked a very special chapter in my life. I had the honor to have my first oil painting solo exhibition co-organized by the Shanghai Hongqiao Contemporary Museum and the Shanghai Photography and Art Association, held at the Hongqiao Contemporary Museum in Shanghai, China. It was a moment I have dreamed of and worked on since I was a child - that one day, I would have a solo exhibition that projects my artistic ideology and promotes cultural and social dialogue and harmony.
On the opening day, the exhibition brought together nearly 400 guests from over 15 nationalities, roughly 50 industries, and aged 3-93 years old. Together, they were there to celebrate and support this long-term pursuit of artistic dream, which broke cultural, social and age boundaries. The event created a space and time that fostered a joyous harmony among the participants, and that joy alone was the most memorable and precious.
Into the Bamboo Forest Irene Chang Oil Painting Solo Exhibition embodied the cross-cultural and time-transcending elements in our lives through the simple images of bamboos as a medium of expression. I thought it would be nice to share some photos and video of the exhibition with the viewers online, so that you too can get to know me and my artwork better with just one click away. Thank you for participating in this visual and spiritual journey with me online.
